Microsoft Unveils Windows Phone 7 Series With Xbox Live and Zune Integration

Microsoft has just unveiled the latest version of its mobile operating system — Windows Phone 7 Series — live at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Among the highlights, the company says in a statement that “for the first time ever, Microsoft will bring together Xbox LIVE games and the Zune music and video experience on a mobile phone.”

There’s also significant social media integration. Users can post status updates and photos to multiple services at once, and updates from friends can be streamed to the home screen. Not surprisingly, the default search and map services are provided by Bing (Bing), and Microsoft says all Windows Phone 7 devices will come with a dedicated hardware button for them.

Intel and Nokia merge software to create MeeGo

The launch calls into question Nokia’s commitment to the Symbian software

The world’s largest chip maker and the world’s largest mobile phone maker have merged operating systems to create a single platform for mobiles.

The new MeeGo platform, unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, will be used to power phones, netbooks, TVs and in-car entertainment systems.

The open-source software has been created by merging elements of Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo software.

The two firms first announced their intention to collaborate in June 2009.

Cyber attacks against Australia ‘will continue’

The Australian government has not made contact with the activists

An activist group that temporarily blocked access to key Australian government websites plans to continue its cyber attacks, the BBC has learned.

The group, known as Anonymous, was protesting against the Australian government’s proposals to apply filters to the internet in the country.

A man claiming to be a representative of the group said that around 500 people were involved in the attack.
